Pattaya flooded after being pounded by torrential rain

TORRENTIAL rainfall lashed Pattaya this afternoon (Oct. 19) leading to a stretch of Sukhumvit road there getting flooded with left-hand lanes closed to traffic, Amarin TV said.

Reporters of this TV station surveyed the situation at 3 p.m. after continuous heavy downpour and warned that Sukhumvit road near South Pattaya opposite Lotus’s shopping centre was flooded and causing significant traffic delays.

Floodwaters were particularly high on left-hand lanes and to ensure safety and assist motorists police had closed off parts of it. Drivers were urged to slow down and exercise caution when passing through the area with this being especially important for motorcycles and small vehicles, which would be more affected by the floodwaters.

The Thai Meteorological Department had warned that 70% of the Eastern region would experience thunderstorms with heavy downpour in some areas today particularly Chon Buri, Rayong, Chanthaburi, and Trat. Temperatures are expected to range from a low of 23–25°C to a high of 32–34°C.

The eastern region will continue to be lashed by thunderstorms today to Friday (Oct. 19-23), covering 60–70% of the area.

From Wednesday to Sunday (Oct. 21–25) many areas across Thailand, including the Eastern region, will likely be pounded by increased rainfall, with the possibility of heavy to very heavy downpours in some locations.
