DRAMA swirled over a children’s go-kart race at Pattaya yesterday (Oct. 11) with the father of one of the contestants alleging that the winner’s vehicle engine had been modified with this being sternly refuted, Naewna newspaper said today.
The TrueVisions –Toyota Junior Kart Championships 2026 (Round 3) for 8-9 years old children saw Payu Rangsisingpipat, or Nong Payu, son of Nott Witsarut and Chompoo Araya delivering an impressive performance to secure the first place, delighting the crowds.
However eyebrows were raised Nong Payu did not appear on the podium to receive his award as was customary in other rounds, sparking curiosity among spectators throughout the venue.
It was later revealed that Mr. Tanuphat Lerttaweewit, aka Hiso Por, husband of singer Benze Prikthai and manager of TNP Motorsport team, had filed a formal protest against the race result.
His team had entered Peemyaphat Lerttaweewit, or Nong McLaren, his eight-year-old son, in the same category as Nong Payu.
The protest necessitated a review by the Royal Automobile Association of Thailand (RAAT) to verify the facts in accordance with competition regulations.
Tanuphat alleged that the kart finishing first was using an older model engine cylinder block, raising suspicions regarding modifications made to allow its use alongside the current engine model while other karts were using the new standard-specification engines mandated by the regulations.
However, DT Motorsport team, responsible for maintenance and servicing of kart No. 69, driven by Nong Payu issued a clarification via their social media channel (@dt_motorsport.th).
The team stated that kart No. 69 underwent technical inspection in preparation for the Sunday race within the scheduled timeframe and successfully passed inspection and engine sealing. Following the race, the kart again passed the required technical inspection procedures, and no irregularities or instances of misconduct were reported.
