THE plot of land in Chachoengsao province where a Jewish cemetery is located but the permit for this use not renewed with a case now in court in an attempt to overturn this order, has been offered for sale at a steep price of 25 million baht a rai, but no one has shown interest in buying it, PPTVHD36 said today (Sep. 6).
A reporter from this television station interviewed Mr. Sant, a former village headman, about the 15-rai, 2-ngan, 86-square-wah land plot that he sold around seven to eight years ago and was told that he only got 250,000 baht a rai.
He had purchased the plot 14 years earlier at 220,000 baht a rai then leased it to rice farmers and upon selling it got just 30,000 baht a rai profit.
A reliable source revealed that after the new owner took possession of this plot he improved and filled the topsoil. Once the land was levelled with the road in front of it, he asked a broker to sell for 1 million baht per rai. This broker then sold the entire plot to a Jewish company for 20 million baht, a price five to six times higher than the original cost, or approximately 1.5 million baht per rai.
Furthermore, reports emerged that after the Jewish company took possession of the land to establish a cemetery for Jewish residents and obtained a three-year permit from a former Chachoengsao governor, with the permit then not renewed, this company offered to sell it for 25 million baht a rai but there are no takers.
This price was considered excessively high compared to the normal market price for land located within smaller side streets or villages. Land adjacent to the main Highway 304 (Chachoengsao-Kabin Buri) is typically being sold for around 8 million baht per rai.
After the Interior Ministry rejected an appeal filed on Oct. 3, 2024 to renew the cemetery licence on grounds it had not been filed within legal limit, the company’s representatives filed a lawsuit with the case under consideration by Rayong Administrative Court.
The ministry’s Department of Provincial Administration emphasised that all actions taken were in accordance with its authority and the law, with careful consideration to protect the interests of the public and community in the area, MGR Online said.
