PRIME MINISTER Anutin Charnvirakul today (Aug.10) shrugged off hearsay that a dozen Klatham MPs were quietly becoming turncoats from the fourth largest party headed by former agriculture & cooperatives minister Thammanat Prompao to the Bhumjaithai, core of the current coalition government, albeit in rebellious manner.
The prime minister who concurrently acts as Bhumjaithai leader categorically dismissed the fresh rumours which had it that those would-be-renegade lawmakers of the Klatham, supposedly part of the opposition bloc, had planned to revolt en masse against Thammanat’s camp and turn to align themselves with the largest ruling camp surreptitiously steered by de facto Bhumjaithai boss Newin Chidchob.
Anutin was apparently responding to yesterday’s event in which Buriram United soccer club chaired by Newin played a friendly match with Ratchaburi soccer club chaired by Klatham MP Boonying Nitikanchana on the latter’s pitch in the western province.
Boonying who had been previously attached to the Bhumjaithai until the 2019 election in which she contested a Ratchaburi constituency under the Palang Pracharath tickets is more or less anticipated to lead an exodus of the dozen renegade Klatham MPs from Thammanat’s camp currently with 58 MPs under his command to Newin’s camp, albeit only in rebellious and yet-unlawful fashion. Currently representing Ratchaburi’s five constituencies are three Bhumjaithai MPs and two Klatham MPs, including Boonying.
The unconfirmed, surreptitious move headed by the woman lawmaker apparently countered fading speculation that the Pheu Thai, the second largest coalition partner under de facto party boss Thaksin Shinawatra, could possibly part company with the Bhumjaithai currently with 190 MPs under Newin’s command sooner or later amidst varied, unsettled scandals surrounding the purported competency, transparency and integrity of Newin’s camp as core of the current coalition government.
Thammanat who had been personally loyal to Thaksin over the last couple of decades had categorically denied hearsay that they both had covertly held a tete-a-tete talk over a possible setup of a Pheu Thai-led coalition in the foreseeable future.
