Pawoot urged to publicly clear himself of suspected forex scam

By Thai Newsroom Reporters

PEOPLE’S MP Pawoot Pongvitayapanu was today (June 23) encouraged to clear himself to the public of alleged involvement in a foreign exchange trading scam after he has recently remained tightlipped in the face of allegations launched by the Department of Special Investigation.

Deputy People’s leader Sirikanya Tansakun suggested Pawoot who has not been apparently available for comment over the last several days give a factual explanation to the public about forex racket scandals surrounding himself as a former online trader and a previous shareholder of a payment service firm because, she said, that could possibly intensify into money-laundering and transnational crimes.

According to the DSI, Pawoot was found to have previously held shares in Pay Solutions, an online payment service firm, and been among 57 unnamed persons including politicians and celebrities plus 20 online trading firms currently suspected by the investigative agency of involvement in illegal forex businesses.

Sirikanya made her comment after a video clip had gone viral featuring the People’s MP in question encouraging prospective investors to trade via QRS Global, an online trading firm which had reportedly used the services of Pay Solutions where he had previously held shares.

The deputy People’s leader remarked that the suspected forex scam which might primarily involve certain individuals and private firms would likely in no small measures divert public attention from relatively significant matters such as the Bhumjaithai-led government’s 2027 budget legislation and the TH-AI Passport project allegedly driven by partisan nepotism and pushed by Digital Economy & Society Minister Chaichanok Chidchob, who concurrently acts as secretary-general of the ruling party surreptitiously steered by his father/de facto Bhumjaithai boss Newin Chidchob.

Sirikanya said Pawoot might be probably preoccupying himself with the gathering of facts and figures pertaining to the allegations launched against him by the DSI whilst the largest opposition party plans to set up an ad hoc, fact-finding committee to look into the forex scam scandals surrounding the People’s MP in question.

Pawoot has earlier categorically dismissed allegations of his involvement in the suspected forex scam and argued that he had literally earned a sum of 28 million baht in profit from trading gold online over the last few years which, he said, had by no means involved such an illegal business.
