THE PEOPLE’S Party in general and a certain People’s MP in particular may have been unfairly vilified by unknown persons who had openly accused the opposition lawmaker in a foreign exchange scam with some hidden intent to divert public attention from the Bhumjaithai-led government’s contentious TH-AI Passport project, said People’s secretary-general Pijarn Chaopattanawong today (June 19).
That apparently referred to People’s MP Pawoot Pongvitayapanu who had been earlier accused of involvement in the sensational forex racket among many others after he had been obviously critical of the AI project pushed by de facto Bhumjaithai boss Newin Chidchob’s son/Digital Economy & Society Minister Chaichanok Chidchob.
The unnamed accusers may probably have had the veiled design to discredit the People’s in general and the investigative legislator in particular with such alleged involvement in the illegal business whilst the opposition party have considerably suspected the AI project to be riddled with politically-driven nepotism and insisted that the project be entirely scrapped because it would not be worth the taxpayer’s money, according to the People’s secretary-general.
Meanwhile, Pawoot today (June 19) categorically dismissed allegations that he had been in any way involved in any forex scams on which the Department of Special Investigation has been cracking down and maintained that he had earlier resigned from all positions in private firms and done without all his corporate shares before he jumped onto the political arena a few years ago.
Pawoot contended that he had previously dealt in online trading businesses and that he had earlier earned some 28 million baht in profit from trading gold. The People’s MP said he will certainly cooperate with the DSI and other authorities in regard to their sustained crackdown on forex scams.
Pijarn confirmed that the largest opposition party will by no means protect their MP if found otherwise evidently involved in such a crime at any time.
