Prawit to be chucked out if he skipped too many House sessions

By Thai Newsroom Reporters

PALANG PRACHARATH leader-cum-MP Prawit Wongsuwan will likely be examined to determine whether he may have failed to attend far too many floor sessions of the House of Representatives to maintain his MP status any longer.

House Speaker Wan Muhamad Noor Matha will likely assign House officials to find out whether Prawit may have been absent for more than one-fourth of a total of weekly House sessions which could possibly cost him the MP status in accordance with the parliamentary rules, following a petition filed today (Sep. 18) by former Pheu Thai spokesperson Prompong Nopparit calling for the counting of times at which Prawit may have so far skipped the House meetings in the current parliamentary term.

A lawmaker may practically skip House floor sessions for more than one-fourth of the total on condition that his or her absence for whatever conceivable reason be given prior permission from the House speaker otherwise the legislator could possibly lose his or her MP status.

Prawit has reportedly failed to cast votes or even abstain from voting on 13 out of a total of 16 legislations and motions so far put on the House agenda.

The Palang Pracharath leader had allegedly aired verbal frustrations whilst talking with unnamed persons with content being purportedly taped and circulated on social media involving his fruitless attempt to have himself named prime minister.

The rank and file of the Palang Pracharath, currently being part of the opposition bloc, had categorically dismissed the allegation, saying it was merely an AI-aided ploy by unnamed, Pheu Thai-associated elements to vilify their party leader.

The Palang Pracharath had been dumped out of the Pheu Thai-led coalition with half the total of the ultra-conservative party’s MPs headed by Thammanat Prompao having turned coat in support of the government under Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra, daughter of de facto Pheu Thai boss Thaksin Shinawatra.

Meanwhile, Bhumjaithai MP Suwanna Kumpiro was today ordered by the Supreme Court to immediately stop doing his legislative duties, pending court proceedings on an electoral rigging lawsuit earlier filed by the Election Commission against the lawmaker representing Bungkan.

Suwanna has been accused of evident involvement in a vote-buying activity which may have landed him the victory in last year’s election for MP of an upper northeastern constituency.
