A VIDEO CLIP has now gone viral online featuring People’s MP Pawoot Pongvitayapanu as promoter of a foreign exchange brokerage firm after the lawmaker has categorically dismissed allegations that he had been by any means involved in illegal trading businesses.
The clip features Pawoot in a video advertisement of QRS Global, one of the four brokerage firms being currently suspected by the Department of Special Investigation of dealing in illegal forex trading. The viral clip shows the People’s MP encouraging prospective forex investors to trade via QRS Global in exchange for accrued benefits including free air tickets to France.
The forex brokerage firm in question had reportedly used payment gateway services provided by Pay Solutions, another private firm where Pawoot had previously held shares, according to the DSI, a government agency under care of the Ministry of Justice.
Pawoot had evidently received 14 transfers of cash online worth two million baht each but no charges have yet been pressed against him by the DSI.
Nevertheless, the People’s MP has earlier contended that he had entirely earned that sum of money combined amounting to 28 million baht in profit from trading gold online over the last few years and that he had been by no means involved in any forex scams of which some 57 persons including unnamed politicians and celebrities have been so far suspected by the investigative agency.
Pawoot has earlier said he will definitely cooperate with DSI and other authorities to help crack down on such online crimes without using his legislative privileges which may otherwise grant him immunity to arrest and detention on any charges.
People’s Secretary-General Pijarn Chaopatanawong has earlier defended Pawoot saying he was among fellow opposition lawmakers who had delved into the allegedly nepotism-driven TH-AI Passport project pushed by de facto Bhumjaithai boss Newin Chidchob’s son/Digital Economy & Society Minister Chaichanok Chidchob and charged that the apparent counterattack was merely designed to divert the public from the contentious project as well as to vilify the largest opposition party in general and the online trader-turned-MP in particular.
