Karenni Army targeting two Myanmar military bases near border after 1,323 battles since 2020

 

THE Karenni Army (KA) and its allies are now targeting the last two key Myanmar military bases near the Thai border in Karenni state after seizing a string of other camps in 1,323 battles fought between Feb 1, 2020 and April 30, 2025, Naewna newspapers said today (May 4).

A high-ranking KA leader said the two Myanmar junta strongholds near the Thai-Myanmar border currently being attacked by KA and its allies Karenni Nationalities Defence Force (KNDF) and People’s Defence Force (PDF) are Phasong and Bolaka (names translated as written in Thai).

In over five years since Feb. 2020 177 civilians died while fleeing the war and another 740 were killed by the Myanmar military. 

The Myanmar Air Force conducted 1,874 air operations against the Karenni side, leading to KA and its allies losing 740 soldiers. In addition, 29 schools, 3,031 houses, 17 hospitals and clinics and 57 religious buildings were damaged.

Meanwhile 3,760 Myanmar military soldiers have been killed, and 68 military trucks and three aircraft were lost in these battles.

All of their strongholds along the Thai border, including many military camps, in Karenni state were captured, the senior KA leader said.
