FORMER Move Forward leader and current People’s Party campaign assistant Pita Limjaroenrat said while helping this camp’s candidate for mayor of Khon Kaen municipality woo voters today (May 4) that he will be returning in nine years’ time to become the best prime minister this country ever had, Thai Rath newspaper said.
Pita lost his status as an MP and was banned from politics for 10 years after Move Forward was dissolved by the Constitutional Court for violating the lese majeste law by openly making campaign-promised moves deemed by court as tantamount to undermining rule of the country in August last year. This party, which is the second guise of Future Forward, has now morphed into People’s Party.
Pita gave four reasons why Khon Kaen’s voters should choose Ms. Benchamaporn Srilabut for mayor with the first being that she is a hardworking engineer and as this northeastern municipality receives one of the biggest budgets in the country civil servants would not be able to fool her into approving projects because she can read the blueprint.
The second is the party’s clear policies with Khon Kaen’s problems to be solved by Khon Kaen people.
The third is something other parties do not offer, which is if you choose People’s candidate there will be three MPs helping with the work which will ensure it flows seamlessly.
The final reason is they would be getting talented people from all over the country to help manage the municipality with the people of Khon Kaen having dignity and cannot be bought.
“I will travel all over the country to gain knowledge and in nine years’ time I will come back to be Thailand’s best prime minister,” Pita said.
He also mentioned that Thailand’s problems can be divided into two parts – what is on the table and what is under it.
On the table is the same issue being tackled across the world, he said referring to US tariffs, and Thailand has to negotiate with the US administration.
However, the Thai economy is now growing slower than Laos, Vietnam and Myanmar.
Pita added that he does not know how the authorities will handle the economy and what state it will be upon his return to politics in nine years’ time.
Thailand needs a government that can solve problems on the negotiation table and tackle corruption under it.
“Look at the collapsed building in Bangkok. The Japanese said they weren’t shocked by the earthquake but they were shocked by the corruption in our country. It shows Thailand can’t advance unless people unite and cooperate,” he said.
