AN Israeli woman was arrested on drug trafficking charges on Koh Phangan after a sting operation led to police finding 1.4 grammes of ecstasy crystals on her, MNG Online said yesterday (Aug. 8).
Pol. Lt. Gen. Saksira Phuek-am, head of the Tourist Police, had ordered Pol. Lt. Col. Vinij Bunchit, attached to Tourist Police Division 5, to crackdown on foreigners taking jobs reserved for Thais as well as committing 10 other categories of crime.
Koh Phangan Tourist Police conducted an investigation and found out that an Israeli woman, only Identified as Ms. Libby, was involved in drug trafficking so they lured her to sell some to an underground agent.
When she rode up on a motorcycle at the appointed place, a house without a number on this island, policemen waiting there quickly checked and found 1.4 grammes of ecstasy crystals on her, with the total amount without the bag being 1 gramme.
Police said Libby, who had put up a front of being a Hi-So tourist, living and eating luxuriously, wept throughout while making a confession and was charged with illegal possession of category 1 drug, that is esctasy.
In another case, Koh Phangan Tourist Police arrested a Russian man on charges of running a barber shop on Koh Phangan and giving haircuts to foreign customers.
Police said Mr. Vladdislav (surname withheld), 29, advertised on Telegram app and when customers contacted him he would send them details about the price which varied according to the selected hair cut and would only accept cash.
He has been charged with working without a permit and taking up a profession reserved for Thais as well as running a business without authorisation.
