THE Expressway Authority of Thailand (EXAT) clarified today (May 2) that an object resembling a concrete block that fell from a footbridge on Bangna-Trad road and smashed a sedan’s windshield was not caused by the structure chipping, Amarin TV said.
This followed widespread coverage of this incident on traditional and social media.
In a post on its web page EXAT said a team of engineers had inspected the area and found that there was no damage or traces of concrete chipping from the structure of Burapha Withi Expressway.
In addition, EXAT coordinated with Samut Prakan Highways Office and local police in going through a CCTV footage and it was found that this incident was caused by someone throwing a concrete block from the footbridge and damaging the road user’s vehicle that was passing just then.
The surveillance cameras footage clearly recorded this incident and police are now tracking down the perpetrators to prosecute them according to the law.
EXAT urged road users who experience similar incidents to immediately contact the agency at its 24-hour call centre 1543 so that assistance can be provided and investigation quickly launched.
This followed the latest incident of debris falling and killing people on Rama II road on Apr. 29 whereby two chunks of concrete fell from a flyover and smashed the windshield of an engineer’s pickup truck rupturing his liver and leading to his death a short while later.
