AROUND 200 people fled in panic after gunshots were fired at a friendly futsal match between two groups of Cambodian workers in Khu Khot area of Pathum Thani province this afternoon (Dec. 10) but fortunately no one got injured, TV Channel 7 and Matichon newspaper said.
Cheerleading squads of the two sides in this friendly competition that took place at a football field behind Lam Sam Kaeo Municipality started quarrelling with a person from Si Mum Mueang market then opening fire leading to the players and spectators all running for their lives.
A Khu Khot police station team and forensic officers inspected the scene of the shooting and found that gunshots were fired outside the football field where spectators had brought chairs to sit and watch the match.
They found four bullet casings with the stadium’s roof punctured and a steel beam damaged which were collected as evidence.
Police then started examining surveillance camera clips to determine the route the gunman took to escape so as to quickly arrest and take legal action against him.
However Mr. Pramet (surname withheld), 19, said today’s futsal match was between Cambodian workers at Talad Thai and Si Mum Mueang markets and he had come to watch his friends play.
He added that he had quarrelled with the gunman who rode up on a motorcycle and ran in and fired three shots in the air and one outside on the road next to the football field but did not target the spectators.
