Police target pub after former boxing champ faces sexual misconduct claims

 

KHON KAEN police are rushing to gather evidence after a 17-year-old teenage girl claimed that famous former boxing champ Mr. Somrak Khamsing sexually assaulted her while taking legal action against the pub where they met for admitting minors, Matichon newspaper said this morning (Dec. 11).

Pol. Col. Yosawat Kaewsueb-thannit, superintendent of Muang Khon Kaen police station, and his team together with municipality officials inspected some entertainment venues on Pracha Samran road.

They especially targetted the pub that was still running after closing time where Somrak, who won a gold medal at the 1996 Summer Olympics, left with the 17-year-old teen girl on Saturday night (Dec. 9)  and she later filed a sexual assault complaint against him.

The police team found that this pub was open as usual with inspection of ID cards taking place. Urine tests of pubgoers were conducted but none were found to have taken narcotics.

Investigation revealed that Somrak had been seated at a table behind the DJ booth with there being a surveillance camera right in front of him. Many pubgoers came to share a toast and take photos with him.

Police have questioned the teenager’s friend who picked her up from the hotel and sent her to undergo a physical examination at a hospital after which she was placed at the provincial Children’s and Women’s Home.They have also called professionals to question her while contacting her relatives to take her home.

Moreover surveillance camera clips from this pub and other related places are being checked and additional evidence being gathered.

They have filed charges against the pub management for allowing persons younger than 20 years of age to enter the establishment with the manager having come to the police station to acknowledge them.

As for Somrak, police are in the process of gathering evidence and if there is corroboration he will be summoned to face charges.
