CARETAKER PRIME MINISTER Prayut Chan-o-cha today (Mar.24) ironically cautioned one might probably “slide off course” during an ongoing campaign toward the May 14 general election.
Without naming names or elaborating, Prayut was apparently referring to the largely anticipated landslide victory of the Pheu Thai in the nationwide election, warning to the extent that the largest opposition party might probably end up sliding off the path instead of achieving their proclaimed goal.
The caretaker premier avoided using the word “landslide” and chose to only say “slide” in English in an ironic response to the speculated Pheu Thai landslide victory.
“What kind of slide could it be? Probably one might slide off course and get hurt for nothing,” the straight-faced Prayut responded to a reporter’s question about it.
According to Prayut, the ultra-conservative Ruam Thai Sang Chart under whose tickets he is running to prolong his rule has not set such campaign targets to score an overwhelming triumph with a decisive number of partisan candidates elected as MP.
The Pheu Thai, more or less guided by de facto party boss/deposed prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra who has been living in self-exile abroad and desperately longing to return home, has reportedly targeted to sweep as many as 310 MP seats in the May 14 race to parliament.
The Pheu Thai, scheduled for April 5 to name a third person among a trio of partisan contestants for prime minister in addition to Thaksin’s daughter Paetongtarn Shinawatra and real estate tycoon Settha Taweesin, remains non-committal as to who among the trio will finally be the No.1 contender for head of post-election government.
