Third drug suspect in city centre shootout nabbed

POLICE chased and arrested the third drug suspect who together with his two accomplices had opened fired on police at Sukhumvit soi 50 last Tuesday night (Mar. 21), TV Channel 7 said this morning (Mar. 24).

Pol. Maj. Gen. Thawatkiat Jindakuansong, head of Metropolitan Division 5, was informed by Pol. Col. Opas Hannarong, head of Phra Khanong police station, that the third suspect, Mr. Sakarn, 30, had now been arrested after two others involved in the firefight with police, Mr. Konthorn, 28, and Mr. Jetsada, 29, were arrested after driving to the Sathorn area.

At 2 a.m. on Tuesday night a Phra Khanong police team patrolling the area around Sukhumvit Soi 50 expressway came across a suspicious pick-up truck with no licence plate so signalled for it to stop for inspection. However the three suspects in the vehicle fired shots at the police team and in the firefight that ensured they managed to drive away.

The Phra Khanong police team called for reinforcement with a police team from Thung Maha Mek station intercepting the vehicle near Sun Phlu Pattana housing development project in Sathorn district.

They had managed to arrest two of the suspects but the third escaped. Found with them a SIG Sauer firearm and ammunition plus some narcotics.

They were charged with attempting to kill police officers, failing to obey police orders without reasonable excuse, possessing methamphetamine (Yaba) pills, consuming drugs and unauthorised possession of a firearm.

With this being a serious crime as a shootout in the middle of the city endangers residents, police urgently chased Sakarn and he was finally arrested in Bang Len district, Nakhon Pathom province.

Konthorn has been slapped with drug charges a few times in the past while Jesada was charged once in 2017.
