A YOUTH high on drugs and wielding a pistol killed a village headman and a boy during a traditional mor lam music show in Kalasin after he barged in to defend a younger friend being attacked by a rival gang of youths but fired seven shots upon suddenly falling there, Naewna newspaper said today (May 5).
Pol. Lt. Sakchart Laosaksam, a detective inspector at Nong Kung Si police station in this northeastern province, rushed to the show at 1 a.m. together with rescuers and a doctor from a local hospital upon being informed of the shooting.
At the scene found Saranyu (surname withheld), 12, dead on the spot after being hit in the eye with a bullet while Mr. Kwanchai Pannoi, 55, headman of Nong Chum Saeng Village No. 7 was shot twice in the stomach and was rushed to the hospital but later died. Also hit was Mr. Prasit Pangchanda, 54, Nong Yai subdistrict headman.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect had received a Facebook message from a younger female friend at the show that she and her friends were afraid of being attacked.
He admitted to having taken three methamphetamine pills before coming to the event and upon seeing a younger male friend being punched up by a rival gang he fired a warning shot.
Both the village and subdistrict headmen together with some peacekeepers intervened but the suspect suddenly fell to the ground firing seven shots with both the headmen and the boy who was caught in the crossfire being hit.
He has been charged with intentional homicide and possessing and carrying a firearm in public without permission.
