TWO VILLAGERS WERE KILLED due to last night’s (Oct.16) flash floods in a low-lying district of Chiang Rai, officials said.
The bodies of the deceased villagers, 58-year-old and 12-year-old males, were found after torrential rainwater and flash floods had swept over terrains in Pan district in the middle of the night.
An earthen levee in a low-lying area of Mae Chan district caved in due to excessive water from Kham River, a tributary of Mekong River, but no fatalities or injuries were reported.
The authorities scrambled to fix the damaged embankment and reinforce others along the overflowing river as rainstorms are yet expected to prevail in the current monsoon season.
