Flyover metal plate falls on workers killing one, injuring two

A HEAVY metal plate beneath Lamsalee intersection flyover undergoing repairs caming crashing down and killed one worker and injured two others in the wee hours of this morning (Aug. 17), Matichon newspaper said.

Lt. Col. Banphot Manurak, deputy inspector at Lat Phrao police station, quickly went to the site of the accident together with Siam Ruamjai Foundation rescuers.

Three workers were found injured,  Mr. Netiphong (surname withheld), 26, Mrs. Duangjai, 46, and Mr. Anan, 32, and all were quickly rushed to the hospital but Anan later succumbed to his injuries.

Investigation revealed that prior to the accident the workers had brought in two cranes to take slings up and tie them to the metal plate then bring it down. However just as the workers were hooking the slings to the plate it suddenly came crashing down hitting the workers on the cranes and injuring them.

The project manager told Pol. Col. Thanaphan Phadungkarn, head of Lat Phrao police station, that he assumed the workers had not installed a third pulley before releasing the first two in bringing down the metal plate.

He added that an investigation will be carried out to see if this was an accident or negligence with the flyover repair project temporarily suspended. The company will be compensating the family of the deceased worker and the two others who got injured.

Pol. Col. Thanaphan said it will take three days to question those involved and complete the investigation of this accident.
