CHART THAI Pattana Party leader Varawut Silpa-archa told reporters upon arriving at Pheu Thai Party headquarters this afternoon (July 23) for a discussion on resolving Thailand’s crisis in forming a government that his camp still upholds its stance of not amending the lese majeste law, better known as Section 112 of the Criminal Code, Matichon said.
Asked about coming to Pheu Thai headquarters today, Warawut said he is happy to get an opportunity to talk to colleagues with whom his party has worked with since the days of his late father Banharn Silpa-archa.
Asked whether he had made the decision upon receiving Pheu Thai’s invitation to join talks, Warawut replied that the decision was made a long time ago with talks held continuously but today he will be reinforcing the way his party works and that this is normal for political parties to do.
Yesterday Bhumjaithai Party, steered by de facto boss Newin Chidchob, offered to join a Pheu Thai-led coalition government on condition that the Move Forward Party be dumped out of it in talks at Pheu Thai headquarters.
Meanwhile a team from Palang Pracharath Party, headed by Prawit Wongsuwan, is due to arrive at Pheu Thai Party headquarters for talks at 4 p.m. today.
The team consists of the party’s secretary-general Santi Promphat, chairman of the coordinating committee Thammanat Prompao and Kamphaengphet MP Pai Lik.
Santi earlier said that his party maintains its standpoint of not supporting rescinding or amending Section 112 of the Criminal Code and it could not work with any party that upholds such a policy.
