ACTING on a tip-off from undercover agents Mae Hong Son police today (Apr. 24) arrested a man who has been selling war weapons to Karens in Myanmar with these being parcelled to him from Bangkok, Matichon newspaper said.
Police were waiting at a delivery office in Mae Sariang district and when Mr. Nattawut Rapeebunnon, 34, showed up to collect four suspicious parcels they quickly arrested him.
Upon opening the parcels police found that they contained two upper frames of 9mm rifles, 22 lower frames of CMMG MK4 semi-auto rifles, 21 packets of 5.56mm bullets, a .22 long rifle with magazine among others totalling 24 items.
Police said the the suspect confessed to having sold firearms to Mr. Jawa, a Karen living across the border in Myanmar, many times.
He added that he had purchased these war weapons from a trader in Bangkok only identifed as Mr. Nu who he contacted by phone and Line app where he uses the name Sor. Nu. Upon money being transferred to his account the ordered weapons were quickly parcelled to him.
This arrest stemmed from undercover agents alerting police that war weapons were being parcelled from Bangkok to Chiang Mai.
