ALTHOUGH the daily Covid-19 tally dropped to 10,919 cases this morning (Sept. 21) there were still 143 deaths while Bangkok logged 2,561 new infections and 40 fatalities, Siam Rath newspaper said.
The daily death toll remains high with most of the deceased being either over 60 years of age or suffering from chronic illnesses while pregnant women are dying continuously. The highest number of deaths continues to be among the elderly.
New Covid infections were found in 71 provinces totalling 6,306 cases. Bangkok and its neighbouring provinces added another 4,184 cases with Bangkok again registering the highest number of new infections at 2,561 and also the highest daily death toll at 40.
Of today’s 10,919 cases 9,846 emerged in the surveillance and healthcare systems, 644 were found through proactive search in communities while 422 fell sick in prisons and detention centres. Seven overseas arrivals were found to be infected.
This added up to 1,500,105 cases since the start of the pandemic.
There were 6,593 people who were found to be infected by antigen test, which is less accurate than the PCR test, and if they are added to the daily case count then it climbs to 17,512 new ones.
