PROTESTERS have started gathering on the sidewalk in front of the Central World shopping complex this evening (Feb. 23) with this rally organised by an anonymous group and Thammasat Alliance and Rally, Sanook.com said.
The demonstrators want to show their anger over alleged corruption and intervention in police circles as they said it is connections more so than performance that led to promotions. This issue was raised during the no-confidence debate by MP Rangsiman Rome of the opposition Move Forward Party when he brought up the issue of “elephant ticket.”
This ticket allegedly lists the names of police officers assured of promotion with the merit-based system not affecting them in any way.
It was observed that police units were scattered at various shopping centres in this area to maintain security.
Moreover the skywalk linking to the BTS Chitlom station and Central World complex had also been closed.
It was reported that the protesters intended to march to the nearby National Police headquarters but the police had already beefed up security there and brought in water cannon trucks.
At the sametime the Thai hashtag #mob23february is trending with people coming in to make comments.
