Commotion in the armed forces after 2 sailors catch Covid-19

THE cluster of coronavirus infections surrounding Brewery 90 Sriracha in Chonburi province has increased after two sailors who are crewmembers of Thai aircraft carrier HTMS Chakri Naruebet got infected after having visited this same beer hall, Amarin TV reported this morning (Jan. 11, 2021).

A total of 11 personnel from the aircraft carrier have now been quarantined at Queen Sirikit Hospital while all remaining crew totaling 500 are being proactively screened on board by an  epidemiological surveillance officer from Abhakornkiatiwong Hospital.

The two new infections increased the beer hall cluster to 52 while Chonburi province has the highest number of cases in the eastern region with the count reaching 587 today.

Meanwhile the Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) announced at 11.30 a.m. this morning that there were 249 new Covid-19 cases over the past 24 hours taking cumulative confirmed cases to 10,547 with 6,566 having recovered while death remains unchanged at 67.

Of the 249 new cases 179 were found through surveillance and service systems while proactive search in communities revealed 48 more patients. Altogether 11 travellers came from overseas and all have been placed under state quarantine while 14 people crossed the border from Myanmar.
