AFTER a technical malfunction today (July 22) reduced Airport Rail Link service to just one train an hour from usual four or five an hour Deputy Transport Minister Siripong Angkasakulkiat later said additional trains are expected to be added this evening but could not confirm return to normal service as yet, PPTVHD36 said.
Those who have already purchased tickets will receive a full refund while Bangkok Mass Transit Authority (BMTA) has deployed additional buses to help passengers with the service being free of charge.
The disruption started at around 2 a.m., and agencies immediately notified the public in advance, allowing passengers to plan their journeys thus preventing any rioting or disturbance from breaking out.
Siripong inspected Airport Rail Link’s Khlong Tan maintenance depot and revealed that the initial cause is a technical malfunction in one of the trains within the complex with this blocking the tracks and preventing the deployment of remaining trains
Currently, officials are working on resolving the situation and investigating the cause of the malfunction. A report from engineers is required as it is a technical issue.
Aside from BMTA having provided additional buses to accommodate affected passengers, the ministry has also coordinated with the State Railway of Thailand (SRT) to add additional trains to facilitate travel.
Regarding measures to compensate passengers, Siripong said that the ministry is currently prioritising resolving the malfunction and expediting passenger flow. Details of compensation measures will be considered after the situation has eased.
