MINBURI Criminal Court this morning (June 24) sentenced famous Thai singer Mr. Manasawin Nanthasen, whose stage name is Tik Shiro, to four years’ imprisonment which was reduced to two years, without suspension, after he confessed to drunk driving that led to the deaths of two siblings, PPTVHD36 and Amarin TV said.
Tik Shiro, 64, who is also a songwriter, musical producer, and actor, was especially popular in the 1990s being referred to as “Michael Jackson of Thailand” because he was consciously and unconsciously influenced by Jackson’s singing and dancing style.
On October 10, 2024, at 4 a.m., Tik Shiro who was driving a black van collided with a motorcycle on Thep Rak intersection bridge. This resulted in the death of Ms. Thianporn (surname withheld), or Meji, 28, and severely injured her younger brother Mr. Chakraphat, or Junior, 21, a second-year university student, who fell from the 10-metre-high bridge. He was hospitalised and died on March 18, 2025. At the time of the accident, Tik Shiro’s blood alcohol level exceeded 50 milligrammes per decilitre, the legal limit.
Tik Shiro had arrived with his wife, Mrs. Phanthira Nanthasen, and his lawyer. The victims’ parents, Mr. Jirawat Sivapornphitak and Mrs. Haruthai Im-aerb, were also present as co-plaintiffs to hear the verdict.
The court noted that the defendant showed remorse by attending the funerals and offering initial compensation, even though an agreement on the final amount had not been reached. The defendant had also not attempted to dodge the penalty for driving under influence of alcohol.
However his sentence was not suspended while his driver’s licence was revoked at the request of the co-plaintiffs with his lawyer currently in the process of applying for bail and appealing the case.
The singer has already provided initial compensation totalling 3 million baht to the plaintiffs who have filed a civil lawsuit demanding 21 million baht in damages, which was later negotiated and reduced to 18 million baht.
Another popular singer Mr. Seksan Sukpimai, or Sek Loso, who was jailed for possession of firearms and ammunition and resisting arrest as well as drug use and other offences to 2 years, 12 months, and 20 days, since May 20, 2025, and scheduled to be released on May 31, 2028 was today released on parole conditional on wearing an EM bracelet.
The Department of Corrections said during his detention, Sek Loso was selected to participate in a special conditional release programme, specifically a course on “Applying the Philosophy of Sufficiency Economy to the Life of Inmates,” under the “Kamlangjai” (Encouragement) project initiated by Her Late Royal Highness Princess Bajrakitiyabha.
This programme was held at Khao Kling temporary prison, under the supervision of Phetchaburi Central Prison, for five months during fiscal 2026, with the training run from January 23 to June 23, 2026. Sek Loso had demonstrated good conduct and successfully completed the training according to the criteria.
Sek Loso was among those granted royal pardon in celebration marking Her Majesty the Queen’s fourth cycle birthday anniversary on June 3 with his sentence reduced from 2 years, 12 months, and 20 days to 2 years, 6 months, and 30 days and this ending on December 13, 2027.
