Four tourists collapse at Phuket cafe, one dead

THE death of one of five Indian tourists after four of them collapsed while drinking at a popular cafe in Phuket on Saturday night (May 9) remains a mystery and a detailed autopsy is being conducted to determine the cause of death, Amarin TV said late last night (May 10).

At 2.06 a.m. Pol. Lt. Wichayut Dampheuak, deputy investigator at Kamala police station, was alerted that four Indian tourists had collapsed after getting intoxicated at a cafe in this area.

They were identified as Mr. Kushagra Agarwal, Mr. Rahul Agrawal, Mr. Rahul Agrawal (both with the same first and last names), Mr. Aman Agarwal, and Mr. Aryan Verma who was unaffected.

Three of them were sent to Patong Hospital while the fourth was admitted to Thalang Hospital. When police investigators went to the former hospital they found that they were unconscious and unable to speak. Likewise the fourth tourist at the latter hospital was also unconscious.

The cafe’s security guard said the five Indian men came in at approximately 11 p.m. and at around 1.54 p.m. four of them began losing consciousness for unknown reasons while the fifth tourist showed no symptoms. An ambulance was called and they were sent to the two hospitals.

Patong Hospital later informed police that two of the Indian patients, Mr. Kushagra Agrawal and Mr. Rahul Agrawal, were in a coma and were transferred to Vachira Phuket Hospital for further treatment.

At 2.30 p.m. the same day, Vachira Phuket Hospital told police investigators that Mr. Kushagra Agrawal had passed away with the other three patients being in stable condition.

Authorities have notified the Indian embassy and forensic doctors are conducting a thorough autopsy to determine the true cause of death.
