PRIME Minister/Interior Minister Anutin Charnvirakul said today (May 9) that a Royal Decree authorising the Finance Ministry to borrow 400 billion baht to address the energy crisis and facilitate energy transition plus alleviate the suffering of the people has been promulgated and that he is responsible for the outcome, be it good or bad, Naewna newspaper said.
Speaking at Don Mueang Airport upon returning from the 48th Asean Summit and related meetings at Cebu City, the Philippines, Anutin said he, along with Deputy Prime Minister/Finance Minister Ekniti Nitithanprapas and all ministers will be directly responsible for the spending and will strictly enforce the Royal Decree.
These funds, once used, will go directly to the people and there will be no intermediaries or projects hindering this urgent effort to alleviate the suffering of the people from various situations, improve their quality of life, help them better cope with the cost of living and boost their livelihood as far as possible, he said.
When asked about People’s Party and the Democrats likely joining hands to petition the Constitutional Court to pass a ruling as to whether the Bhumjaithai-led government’s move to borrow 400 billion baht may have already breached any sections of the current constitution, thus prompting the judicial branch to judge it unconstitutional and call it null and void, Anutin said legally speaking, the Royal Decree has already been issued and published in the Royal Gazette and from now on he is responsible for everything.
“His Majesty the King has already approved this Royal Decree. The person who countersigned the Royal Decree is the Prime Minister. Therefore, from now on, I am the one responsible. Whether it’s good or bad, whether it’s effective or not, I am the one responsible. I hope that everything will turn out well and beneficially, and I can assure you that there will be no leakage of even a single penny.
“All the ministers in my cabinet, who jointly considered and approved the issuance of this Royal Decree, will help monitor and ensure that this budget is used for the greatest benefit of the country and the people,” he said.
