FORMER prime minister/de facto Pheu Thai boss Thaksin Shinawatra stepped out of Klong Prem Central Prison at 7.50 a.m. this morning (May 11) after being granted parole and was welcomed by his family, this camp’s leaders and big crowds of Red Shirts who had travelled here from various provinces, Naewna newspaper said.

At 8 a.m. Thaksin stood to pay respect to the national flag in front of the prison gate then greeted the throngs of Red Shirts who had camped outside the prison since yesterday to warmly welcome him.

At 8.05 a.m. Thaksin left the prison in a vehicle.

The conditions of this parole are based on the same standards as general parolees. There are no special political conditions or restrictions on expressing opinions or engaging in political activities. Nevertheless, if he violates the probation conditions, his parole may be revoked, and he will return to prison to serve his sentence.

The Red Shirts who slept on the pavement opposite the prison started waking up at 5 a.m. and the atmosphere then turned lively. Many of them had travelled a long distance, particularly from Northern and Northeastern provinces.
