Jan. 2 added as special holiday, stretching New Year break to 5 days

 

THE Cabinet has approved Friday January 2, 2026 as a special holiday thus extending the New Year break to five days, PPTVHD 36 said today (Nov. 1).

A Cabinet meeting of the previous coalition government with de facto Pheu Thai boss-turned-inmate Thaksin Shinawatra’s daughter Paetongtarn Shinawatra as the prime minister had  on Nov. 12, 2024 passed a resolution adding extra holidays for 2025 and 2026 and the current coalition government headed by Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul from Bhumjaithai has approved Jan. 2 as a special holiday.

Today’s announcement makes it easy for New Year revellers to plan how they intend to ring in the New Year which is just around the corner.
