Second sinkhole emerges in Bangkok’s Yannawa district

ANOTHER road in Bangkok caved in this morning (Oct. 1) after a massive sinkhole opened up on Samsen road on Sep. 24 with being in front of Metropolitan Electricity Authority’s (MEA’s) Yannawa district office and two traffic lanes have been closed.

This new sinkhole, which appeared at 8 a.m. is around 26 metres long,  9 metres wide and 1-2 metres deep. A 20-metre stretch of a private fence was also damaged.

The Bang Kho Laem district office has coordinated with MEA’s Yannawa office to investigate the cause of the subsidence with this area being part of an underground cable conduit project undertaken by MEA and the district office, TV Channel 7 said,

The district office has coordinated with Bangkok Metropolitan Administration’s (BMA’s) Drainage and Sewerage Office to block drain pipes and install water pumps to prevent more water from flowing into the collapsed area.

Also contacted were BMA’s Public Works Department and MEA to plan and work out repairs.
