AFTER a lengthy debate Bhumajaithai leader Anutin Charnivirakul was today (Sep. 5) voted prime minister by a majority of lawmakers in the House of Representatives, Thai Rath and Naewna newspaper said.
At 3.50 p.m. it was announced that Anutin had obtained more than 247 votes from 492 currently performing MPs thus winning the race against his rival Pheu Thai candidate Chaikasem Nitisiri .
The People’s Party, with 143 MPs, had decided to endorse Anutin for head of a Bhumjaithai-led coalition government under five conditions with the reformist party not joining in.
