IN A crackdown on online betting during the current FIFA World Cup football tournament that started on June 11 and ends on July 19 the Anti-Online Grambling Centre police broke up two internet gambling networks today (June 17), PPTVHD36 and Amarin TV said.
The two online gambling websites raided after police obtained search warrants from Udon Thani Provincial Court are “member.ufa47” and “ufad1.”
The former has been operating for over two years, has 54,886 members and a monthly turnover exceeding 60 million baht, or over 720 million baht annually, while the latter has been operating for over six months, has 48,380 members, and a turnover exceeding 100 million baht in the past three months.
The websites were illegally offering betting on international football match results, and other types of gambling such as digital slot machines and baccarat.
Member.ufa47 was operated from a house in Udon Thani city district and nine administrators were arrested during the raid namely Mr. Narubet, 32, Ms. Waraporn, 24, Ms. Sutharak, 24, Ms. Sirinapa, 26, Mr. Wayu, 24, Mr. Anukit, 23, Mr. Anuwith, 19, Ms. Pinsuda, 28, and Ms. Thanyachanok, 26. Seized were 12 computers, 27 mobile phones, routers, and other electronic equipment.
Ufad1 was also located at a house in Udon Thani city district, and six administrators were arrested during the raid namely Mr. Phongkorn, 25, Ms. Chularat, 29, Ms. Pimphaka, 26, Ms. Natthayan, 29, Ms. Sirikorn, 29, and Ms. Supada, 29. Police also seized eight computers, ten mobile phones, and one router.
Police confirmed that they will intensify their crackdown on online gambling websites throughout the World Cup tournament and will expedite tracking the financial trail to bring the main perpetrators and beneficiaries to justice.
