THE PALANG PRACHARATH today (Dec. 11) resolved to oust a clique of 20 renegade MPs, led by former Palang Pracharath secretary-general Thammanat Prompao, from the opposition party.
Palang Pracharath Secretary-General Paibul Nititawan confirmed the party’s executive board has decided to formally expel the 20 renegade MPs, including former agriculture & cooperatives minister Thammanat, from the party headed by former deputy prime minister/MP Prawit Wongsuwan.
The Palang Pracharath ouster of the renegade MPs will be formally endorsed with a minimum of three-fourths of the opposition party’s executive board members and Palang Pracharath MPs combined tomorrow, Paibul said.
Prawit’s camp which had been dumped by de facto Pheu Thai boss Thaksin Shinawatra out of the coalition government currently has 40 MPs half of whom have already turned coat to side with the Pheu Thai-led government.
Those “ousted” lawmakers are legally obliged to find another party to apply for partisan membership in a 60-day period in order to keep their MP status intact.
