A COUPLE of suspects are wanted in the disappearance of two Russian siblings in Chonburi four days ago after their dismantled motorcycle was found buried in the ground as police continue a massive search for them, TV Channel 7 said this evening (July 30).
Diana Nazimova, 22, and Roman Nazimov, 17, the two Russian siblings, left their home in Huai Yai subdistrict, Bang Lamung district, Chonburi, on a motorcycle early Sunday morning (July 26) and have been missing since then with their fate unknown.
This morning the Commander Provincial Police Region 2’s Investigation Division led Bang Lamung district police and two K9 police dogs in the search operation.
The police team fanned out in various areas including Na Chom Thian subdistrict, Sattahip district, and Huai Yai subdistrict, Bang Lamung district, using simulated scenarios by analysing the perpetrators’ behaviour and determining the likely locations where evidence or bodies might have been concealed.
The police dogs were given clothes of the missing siblings to sniff then searched a well and abandoned buildings in Na Chom Thian subdistrict, near areas believed to be connected to their disappearance.
The search also covered an old cemetery in Huai Yai subdistrict; an abandoned house and “Mab Fak Thong 1” reservoir.
Investigators said the GPS signal to a cell phone carried by one of the two missing siblings was lost before reaching the abandoned house and the reservoir. However, authorities have not yet confirmed whether the phone was switched off, the battery died or was destroyed with further investigation underway.
A local resident related that on Monday and Tuesday afternoon (July 27-28), while herding cattle, he saw two men matching the description of the suspects riding a motorcycle away from a large well not far from the area police were searching. A dismantled motorcycle was discovered buried in the ground around there.
The investigative team believe two individuals, Mr.Thana (surname withheld), or Pong, and his friend Mr. Thongchai, or Thong, are key pieces of the puzzle and were involved in the disappearance of the Russian siblings. Other local residents also saw these two men digging in the area where the dismantled motorcycle was buried.
This afternoon police obtained arrest warrants for them on charges of jointly committing theft or receiving stolen goods as the only evidence so far is the dismantled motorcycle with other charges still under investigation.
This TV Channel’s news team visited Pong’s 74-year-old aunt who said her nephew had only been released from jail less than two months ago and visited her just three to four times. The last time was Monday night, and she asked him to fix the electrical system but before he could finish the work someone called asking him to come quickly as they had to go to Chanthaburi because his child was sick.
She is certain he has fled there and urged him to come forward and tell the truth.
She added that her nephew was a troublemaker as he had been brutally abused by his own father who beat him, doused him in water and tried to electrocute him.
While searching for Pong and Thong, police surrounded the homes of two men, one nicknamed Suea Hoy and the Phang, who were identified as having helped Pong and Thong escape in a motorised tricycle covered with tarpaulin in the middle of the night and helped bury the stolen dismantled motorcycle.
They were taken to Huai Yai police station for questioning but initially denied any knowledge of the incident and claimed they were not even acquainted with Pong and Thong.
