VILLAGERS IN A DOZEN provinces in an upper part of the country have been alerted to brace for torrential rainwater, landslides and flash floods from today (Aug. 3) until the upcoming Thursday.
Department of Disaster Prevention & Mitigation (DDPM) Director-General Chaiwat Junthirapong has today advised those villagers in a dozen provinces mostly in the northern region to get well prepared for monsoon rainstorms, excessive water from overflowing rivers, landslides and flash floods, particularly those living in low-lying areas and on either side of rivers during the upcoming week. They have been strongly suggested to closely follow official news updates on current weather conditions.
Torrential rainwater, landslides and flash floods have been officially forecast to occur in the northern provinces of Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Mae Hong Son, Payao, Uttaradit, Prae, Nan and Lampang as well as the western province of Tak, the upper central province of Phitsanulok and the upper northeastern provinces of Loei, Nong Khai and Buengkarn.
The DDPM and other government agencies were preparing contingency measures to cope with imminent natural damage and provide relief aid for victims due to monsoon rainstorms.
