Apple pulls ad and apologies to Thailand

TECH GIANT Apple Inc. has pulled a promotional video that was heavily criticised on Thai social media for conveying outdated and unrealistic view of the country and apologised to Thailand, Amarin TV said this afternoon (Aug. 2).

The 10-minute clip, which has amassed 5.4 million views since its release on Apple’s YouTube channel on July 18, is the fifth instalment of the tech firm’s “Apple at Work – The Underdogs” series.

After withdrawing the controversial ad, Apple released a statement saying, “Following the ad series ‘The Underdogs’, which is the 5th work in this series, and which we had worked closely with a company in Thailand to create, produce and film in Thailand

“In this regard, our aim and intention was to convey a positive cultural outlook of Thailand, and we apologise that this advertisement does not fully and appropriately present the lifestyle of Thailand as it currently exists. We have taken action,”
