A TEAM of eight policemen travelling in two pickup trucks escaped unscathed after two bombs went off on a road in southern Narathiwat province’s Cho-airong district today (July 31) but one civilian got injured in the blasts, TV Channel 7 said.

At 11.10 a.m. just as the police investigators got close to a bridge on this road a bomb went off. After that upon driving another 50 metres down this same road another bomb went off.

Mr. Narudin (surname withheld) slightly injured his knee in one of the blasts.

Police have cordoned off this area with traffic diverted to other routes for the safety of local residents. An Explosive Ordnance Disposal team is checking the blast site while other police and military teams are chasing the insurgents who set off the bombs.
