16 of 17 diverted flights have landed at Phuket Airport

AFTER torrential rain led to almost the entire island of Phuket being flooded today (June 30) with 17 flights diverted to both other airports in Thailand and at Langkawi and Penang in Malaysia, Phuket Airport this evening said 16 of them had flown back and landed there.

The one that has not returned to land at the island’s airport is Aeroflot flight SU274/275 (Moscow – Phuket route).

This flight was diverted to Suvarnabhumi Airport and is now scheduled to arrive tomorrow (July 1) with the delay being due to crew rest period.

Meanwhile Phuket residents rushed to clean up their homes after torrential rain began stopping in the afternoon with this helping floodwaters drain faster. Traffic was again moving but slowly because of the large number of vehicles that had come in especially at the entrance and exit to Thepkasattri road which is the main road to Phuket town.

Many houses, cars and motorcycles were damaged especially on Thepkasattri road.

Meanwhile owners of houses and shops on the foothills in Kathu subdistrict, Kathu district, were quickly cleaning up after forest runoffs had gushed in with the situation being similar in Kamala subdistrict, Kathu district, because although it has stopped raining a lot of mud remains in their properties.
