Singer given four years in jail in lese majeste case

THE CRIMINAL Court on Ratchadapisek road handed Mr. Chaiamorn Kaewwiboonpan, a popular singer who goes by the professional name of Ammy the Bottom Blues, four years in jail without parole on charges of violating the lese majeste law, or Section 112 of the Criminal Code, arson under Section 217 and Computer Crime Act B.E. 2550 (2007), Naewna newspaper said this morning (May 27),

The second defendant, Mr. Thanapat “Poon” Kapeng was sentenced to one year in jail also without parole.

Both are currently out on bail.

The prosecutor said on the night of Feb. 28, 2021 the defendants and their accomplices set fire to a Royal Portrait of His Majesty King Rama X in front of Klong Prem prison then published images of the incident on the first defendant’s Facebook page “The Bottom Blues”.

As Chaiamorn had not appeared at the second scheduled hearing of the case on April 25, with his mother who is his guarantor saying he was too sick to attend it, the court had postponed the hearing to this morning with a warning that if he did not show up it would consider issuing an arrest warrant for him.

However the popular singer did come to the court with his friends accompanying him to give support.
