THANYABURI Provincial Court this morning (May 27) sentenced Move Forward MP Chonthicha Jangrew to two years in jail without parole in a lese majeste case stemming from a rally in front of this court on Sept. 11, 2021, Naewna newspaper and PPTVHD36 said.
This protest was held to demand the release of political prisoners with there being 10 defendants and all accused of violating the Emergency Decree and using an amplifier without permission.
However Ms. Chonthicha, or Lookkate, alone was charged with violating Section 112 of the Criminal Code, or the lese majeste law, over a speech she gave at the rally.
This court had sentenced her to three years in jail but this was reduced by one-third to two years without parole.
After the verdict Move Forward leader Chaithawat Tulathon immediately submitted cash bail.
Chonthicha later posted a message online saying, “Kate was sentenced to two years in prison without parole in a Section 112 case but have been granted bail,”
If bail had been refused she would have automatically lost her position as MP of Pathum Thani province’s district three.
