By Thai Newsroom Reporters

PRIME MINISTER SRETTHA Thavisin is paying an official visit to Cambodia tomorrow (Sep.28), according to government spokesman Chai Wacharong.

The Thai prime minister is leaving for Phnom Penh tomorrow to meet with his Cambodian counterpart Hun Manet, among other high-level government officials.

Cambodia becomes the first Asean member state to which the newly-named Thai prime minister is visiting, following his first official trip to the United States recently.

Talks between the Thai and Cambodia prime ministers will touch on joint schemes to promote bilateral trade, forecast to amount to US$15 billion in 2025, and jointly-planned measures to crack down on call-centre fraud scams, allegedly based in Cambodia, crossborder human trafficking, criminal suspects and contraband, the government spokesman said.

Besides, Srettha and Hun Manet are scheduled to discuss jointly-planned measures to upgrade permanent Thai-Cambodian border checkpoints and issue temporary land-based border passes for villagers on either side of the shared border.

Bilateral cooperation on railway projects along the common border, migrant workers and energy resources development between the two neighbouring countries will also be discussed, he said.

On Monday, Deputy Prime Minister-cum-Foreign Minister Panpree Pahitthanukorn visited Khlong Luek and Nong Ian permanent border checkpoints in the eastern province of Sra Keo across the Thai-Cambodian border from Poi Pet township.

Panpree was briefed on a joint scheme to promote bilateral trade  worth about US$2.83 billion since last October via Sra Keo’s permanent border checkpoints.

So far this year, over 9.47 million Thais and Cambodians have reportedly crossed the border between the two neighbouring countries via those border checkpoints.
