A FORMER senator who is now a well-known politician showed up at Ban Mo police station in Saraburi late last night to surrender over charges of buying sex services from an underage girl but denied the accusation, Matichon newspaper said this afternoon (Sep. 14).
Pol. Maj. Gen. Wichit Bunchinwuthikul, Saraburi provincial police chief, said last Monday (Sep. 11) he received a report that a 15-year-old girl, 10th grade student, Suay (pseudonym), had been brought to this police station by her Thai father, Mr. A (pseudonym), 37, and her homeroom teacher to prosecute her Myanmar national real mother, Ms. Ma Miao, 37, who worked as a housekeeper at a resort in this province on the charges of forcing her into prostitution.
Pol. Maj. Gen. Wichit said Mr. Bunsong Kerdlam, 58, a former senator and MP candidate for a political party, surrendered at 9 p.m. last night. He denied the charges and used the right of having surrendered to post bail and be temporarily released.
Although Suay had identified six men, arrest warrant could only be issued for five of them with the other four, who were previously rounded up, being identified as Mr. Suriya (surname withheld), a hospital worker in this district; Mr. Phonchai (surname withheld), a contractor in Lopburi; Mr. Decha (surname withheld), 62, former director of National Office of Buddhism in Saraburi and retired civil servant; and Mr. Prasong (surname withheld), 39, a salesman from Nakhon Pathom.
The teenage girl told police that she was forced into prostitution in the resort where her mother worked at the start of 2022 when she was only 13-14 years old.
She added that aside from herself there were other children and women who prostituted at this resort.
The other children were able to identify five to six clients through Google search and among them were a national-level politician who is a member of a party that is part of the current coalition government and a well-known director in Saraburi.
After being arrested Ma Miao confessed to providing girls and women, including her daughter Suay, to guests staying at the resort who paid 1,500-2,000 baht a time.
She added that she used the money Suay earned on the family. She was charged with illegal entry, procuring girls under 15 for prostitution regardless of whether they were willing or not, as well as other charges stemming from the Prevention and Suppression of Prostitution Act,
Suay is currently being cared for at Ban Kret Trakan while her mother is being detained at Saraburi prison.
