Protesters block Pheu Thai headquarters, leaders stuck inside

A GROUP of protesters tried to storm Pheu Thai Party headquarters today (Aug. 7) just as the leaders of both this and Bhumjaithai parties were announcing the latter joining a coalition government being forged by the former after which they blocked the gates to prevent them from leaving, Thai Rath newspaper said.

The Thalu Wang protesters reached Pheu Thai’s head office at 5 p.m. and then proceeded to spray alcohol as a symbolic expression of the official work during the Covid-19 pandemic as the death toll reached 22,933 with  Bhumjaithai leader Anutin Charnvirakul being the Public Health Minister.

Once the press conference attended by Anutin, Bhumjaithai deputy leader Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn and secretary-general Saksayam Chidchob together with Pheu Thai leader Chonlanan Srikaew, deputy leader Phumtham Wechayachai and secretary-general Prasert Chanthararuangthong had ended, the protesters clashed with Pheu Thai security guards as they tried to break down the metal fence to enter the building but were pushed back.

The protesters then blocked all the exits from this building as well as the adjacent Thai Summit building to prevent the two parties’ leaders from leaving.

As Bhumjaithai deputy leader Phiphat drove out via the Thai Summit building, the protesters blocked his vehicle. He came out to negotiate with them but this led to a quarrel.

Meanwhile other groups of protesters blocked the exits at the Pheu Thai building, checking all those driving out by making them slide down the window to see who was within.

The party’s security guards pushed these protesters to the entrance with this triggering chaos, when a bottle of water was thrown at reporters this displeased them and led to their move further away.
