Srettha filing defamation lawsuit against Chuwit

PHEU THAI candidate for prime minister Srettha Thavisin today (Aug. 6) told his lawyer to file a defamation by advertising lawsuit against political activist Chuwit Kamolvisit for alleging that he was involved in claimed tax evasion by Sansiri Plc, Naewna newspaper said.

Srettha’s lawyer, Mr. Winyat Chatmontri, will be filing this lawsuit at Ratchada Criminal Court at 10 a.m. tomorrow.

Chuwit alleged Srettha of having conspired to help others evade 521 million baht in tax for the sales of a pricey parcel of land on Sarasin road in lush Sathorn area in 2019 when he was president of Sansiri.

Chuwit charged that Srettha had been involved in the alleged evasion of the 521 million baht personal income tax by having a total of 12 individuals who separately owned the land under one land title deed sell off his or her respective plot to the property firm in 12 consecutive days or one seller per day.

Today Chuwit, who last week revealed that he is suffering from liver cancer and had not more than eight months left to live, said he was not personally resentful of Srettha nor was his disclosure for the benefit of anyone else with this solely being because he did not want a prime minister who does not have suitable qualifications.

He added that he had more information about the sale of this land plot to reveal tomorrow with this being an official document which he will submit to relevant agencies for further investigation.

Chuwit also said he was not surprised de facto Pheu Thai boss/former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra had put off his planned return to Thailand on Aug. 10, pointing out that the new government had not yet been set up therefore there was no guarantee he would come back.

Regarding the vote for prime minister Chuwit foresees at least another two rounds and believes Palang Pracharath Party leader Prawit Wongsuwan wlll be nominated by Bhumjaithai Party to take the helm of government because it is unlikely the senators will vote for Srettha.
