PALANG PRACHARATH MPs will definitely choose to “play by the rules” in dealing with next month’s voting for prime minister named by the Move Forward which may have mustered endorsement from a majority of elected lawmakers, according to Palang Pracharath MP Thammanat Prompao.
Without naming names, the former Palang Pracharath secretary-general today (June 20) made his comments in reference to the Move Forward which has already garnered support from a total of 312 MPs attached to eight coalition partners and been poised to name Move Forward leader Pita Limjaroenrat for prime minister following the May 14 election.
Looking for at least 64 more yea votes from among non-coalition MPs and senators, Pita could probably be endorsed by the Palang Pracharath MPs, among others, to make it legally adequate to assume the top post of the executive branch.
Pita will need yea votes from more than half the combined total of MPs and senators or at least 376 votes in a joint House/Senate meeting speculated in the second week of next month.
Thammanat quoted Palang Pracharath leader Prawit Wongsuwan who had contested in vain for the elected premiership as earlier saying the 40-strong Palang Pracharath MPs will undoubtedly “play by the rules” in dealing with next month’s voting for prime minister following the nationwide election.
The MP of Payao who practically heads a group of Palang Pracharath MPs elected in constituency-based mode is known to be personally close to Prawit who is the only MP elected in party-listed mode.
Of the total 40 Palang Pracharath MPs, no less than a dozen are already inclined to vote for the Move Forward leader for head of a post-election government despite themselves being on the opposition side.
Those include certain Palang Pracharath MPs practically at command of Somsak Thepsuthin, who had left Prawit’s camp for the Pheu Thai to contest last month’s election in party-listed mode.
