Pheu Thai to take both Deputy House Speaker seats

By Thai Newsroom Reporters

THE PHEU THAI HAS AGREED to take a couple of Deputy House Speaker posts whilst leaving the House Speaker seat to the Move Forward as the largest elected party, confirmed a deputy Pheu Thai leader today (June 18).

Bhumtham Wechayachai said the Pheu Thai has offered to give up the top post of the legislative branch in exchange for those of the first Deputy House Speaker and second Deputy House Speaker.

Bhumtham who contested the May 14 election as the 100th Pheu Thai party-listed candidate is largely speculated to assume a cabinet seat, albeit being not elected as MP, given his being viewed as a right-hand man of de facto party boss/deposed prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra.

The largest coalition partner and second largest coalition partner had earlier tussled over the House Speaker seat. The Move Forward had earlier insisted that they assume the top post of the legislative branch but the Pheu Thai had contended that it be given to the second largest coalition partner since the largest one is already taking the top post of the executive branch.

Having given both Deputy House Speaker seats to the Pheu Thai, the Prachachart, the third largest coalition partner, is not going to take the second Deputy House Speaker post as earlier anticipated, however.
