Petitions in pursuit of Move Forward dissolution lifted

ELECTION COMMISSION secretary-general Sawaeng Boonmee has already waived petitions earlier filed against the Move Forward in pursuit of the otherwise dissolution of the progressive party, said a source in the polling agency today (June 11).

In his capacity as Political Party Registrar, Sawaeng has lifted those anti-Move Forward complaints for lack of truthful evidence to substantiate any grounds for the otherwise dissolution of the party by the Constitutional Court, the source said.

The petitioners had earlier alleged that the Move Forward had planned to abolish the draconian lese majeste law, better known as Section 112 of the Criminal Code.

Move Forward leader/prime minister-designate Pita Limjaroenrat earlier maintained that his party has been merely looking to amend, not abolish, the lese majeste law to the extent that the monarchy be practically kept from possible abuse by malignant politicians and that relationship between the monarchy and people be upheld and cherished in closer, sustainable fashion.

The petitioners had also charged that the Move Forward rank and file had performed under influence of Thanathorn Juangroongruangkit, Piyabutr Saengkanokkul and Pannika Wanich, who had taken part in electoral campaign debate alongside others and delivered speeches during the party’s campaign stumps.

Though the trio were prohibited by court from assuming political positions since the last few years, they were legally allowed to be named partisan assistants for the party’s electoral campaign prior to the May 14 election and to perform under the name of Progressive Movement Group.
