THE government is moving forward with the resumption of direct flights between Hua Hin and Kuala Lumpur thus elevating the popular seaside city to a world-class destination and boosting the regional economy, Naewna newspaper said today (July 4).
Ms. Lalida Periswiwatana, deputy spokesperson for the Prime Minister’s Office, said the government, under the leadership of Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul, is pushing forward with policies to upgrade transportation and tourism infrastructure to enhance the potential of tourist cities and stimulate regional economy.
The Transport Ministry, in collaboration with the Airports Department, Thai AirAsia, and the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), is integrating efforts in preparing for the resumption of international flights on Hua Hin-Kuala Lumpur route and intends to expand on other international routes in the future.
Deputy Transport Minister Mr. Pattarapong Pattaraprasit has been continuously monitoring progress in upgrading Hua Hin Airport following a site visit on May 28 to quickly resolve technical limitations of the runway to meet Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand (CAAT) safety standards thus reopening the facility to international flights and boost air travel connectivity.
Yesterday representatives from Transport and Tourism and Sports ministries joined “Market and Customer Insights Workshop” in Hua Hin with over a hundred tourism and service operators in the area also participating to exchange information and determine the direction of Hua Hin’s tourism development, analyse the potential of tourism products and services, and study the needs of foreign tourists in developing these tourism products and activities so that they better meet market demands, Lalita said.
Before Covid-19 pandemic Hua Hin Airport operated direct flights on the route to Kuala Lumpur which received a very positive response with over 1,000 flights bringing in over 130,000 passengers.
Studying the feasibility of reopening this route is therefore a crucial step in developing international travel which would increase the number of foreign tourists thereby generating income for local businesses.
