THAI Airways International (THAI) clarified that its passenger jet’s right winglet got damaged after hitting an EVA plane at Tokyo’s Haneda Airport at 11 a.m. local time (9 a.m. in Thailand) today (June 10) but there were no injuries, Matichon newspaper said.
The THAI plane, Flight TG 683, was taxiing to fly back to Suvarnabhumi Airport in Bangkok while EVA’s jet, Flight BR 189, was en route to Taipei when the accident occurred.
There were no injuries with there being 264 passengers on the THAI flight and 207 passengers aboard the EVA passenger jet.
In its statement THAI said as its plane was taxiing through Taxiway L15 its right winglet hit the rear of the EVA jet that was parked at Taxiway L14.
As the upper part of the winglet has been damaged the flight could not continue but all the passengers and crew are safe.
CNN quoted Japan’s NHK broadcasting service as saying that the runway near where the two aircraft were stopped has been suspended, leaving just three in operation.
